The School of Computer Engineering comprises three academic divisions: the Department of Computer Science and Technology, the Department of Software Engineering, and the Department of Network Engineering. The School currently offers four undergraduate programs: Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Cyberspace Security, and Data Science and Big Data Technology. At the postgraduate level, it enrolls master’s students in Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems (academic degree) as well as Computer Technology (professional degree), thereby establishing a comprehensive education system that extends from undergraduate through graduate studies.
The School currently has 71 full-time faculty members, including 35 professors and associate professors, 4 doctoral supervisors, and 32 faculty members holding doctoral degrees. Among them, 18 have been recognized as high-level talents at the provincial level under programs such as the Qinglan Project, the Six Talent Peaks Program, and the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Doctor Program. One faculty member has been selected as a second-tier training candidate of Jiangsu Province’s 333 High-Level Talent Cultivation Project. In addition, the School’s Big Data Teaching Team has been recognized as an Excellent Teaching Team under the Jiangsu Province Qinglan Project. The School has also invited over ten doctoral supervisors from prestigious universities in China and senior research and development experts from leading software enterprises to serve as part-time or visiting professors.
The School has achieved remarkable results in program development. In 2018, its three computer-related majors successfully passed the Jiangsu Province comprehensive evaluation of undergraduate programs. In 2019, the Computer Science and Technology program was designated as a national first-class undergraduate program development site and obtained accreditation under the Engineering Education Certification in 2021. In 2022, the Software Engineering program was recognized as a provincial first-class undergraduate program development site and as a university-level industry–education integration model program. In 2023, the Computer Science and Technology program was approved as a development site under the Jiangsu province excellence engineer education training program 2.0, and it was selected for the third phase of the Jiangsu province brand program development project in 2024.
The School actively advances educational reform and scientific research, achieving fruitful outcomes. In terms of teaching achievements, it has received four Jiangsu Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards, comprising both First Prize and Second Prize honors. Two courses, Network Management Technology and Object-Oriented Programming, were selected as national first-class courses under the “Double Ten Thousand Plan.” In addition, three courses were recognized as Provincial First-class Courses, one course as a Provincial Industry–Education Integrated First-class Course, and four textbooks were designated as Provincial Key Textbooks. In the field of scientific research, over the past five years the faculty has undertaken and completed more than 40 national and provincial-level research projects and over 100 enterprise-collaborative projects. During this period, they have published more than 400 research papers, with over 20 achievements passing provincial or municipal-level appraisal, and have received 25 scientific research awards at or above the municipal level. Furthermore, the School has been granted more than 20 national invention patents and over 70 software copyrights.
The School attaches great importance to the development of practice-oriented teaching and research innovation platforms. It has established a range of advanced laboratories, including the Cloud Computing and Big Data Laboratory, the Network Security Laboratory, the Computer Hardware Technology Laboratory, the Software Engineering Training Laboratory, the Internet of Things and Embedded Systems Laboratory, and the Mobile Application Development Laboratory. These facilities, equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, provide strong support for practical teaching across all undergraduate programs. In addition, the School has jointly established the Jiangsu Provincial Engineering Research Center for Smart Ports with Lianyungang Port Group, as well as the Lianyungang Key Laboratory of Marine Internet of Things and Virtual Simulation. These collaborative platforms offer robust support for both faculty research and student innovation activities.
The School closely aligns its development with the national strategy for cultivating “New Engineering” talents, upholding the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education. Guided by the OBE (Outcome-Based Education) philosophy, the School standardizes undergraduate teaching and has established a three-dimensional talent cultivation goal that integrates knowledge, competence, and professional quality. The School has engaged in extensive cooperation with well-known IT enterprises, establishing more than ten internship and training bases to advance industry–education integration and collaborative education. These partnerships provide students with abundant practical opportunities and broad employment prospects.
Over the past three years, the School has secured approval for more than 100 student innovation projects, and its graduates have received 2 Team Excellence Awards for Graduation Theses in Jiangsu Province, along with one Second Prize and six Third Prizes for Excellent Graduation Theses at the provincial level. Students have achieved outstanding results in high-level national competitions such as the Challenge Cup, the ‘Jiebang Gua Shuai’ Special Competition, the China Collegiate Computing Contest, and the National Information Security Triathlon, winning more than 100 awards across Category T, A, and B events. In addition, faculty–student collaborations have resulted in more than 150 software copyrights and invention patents. These achievements have significantly enhanced both the quality of talent cultivation and the employment competitiveness of the School’s graduates.
Looking ahead, the School of Computer Engineering will continue to uphold the principles of innovation and excellence, further advancing educational reform, strengthening research, and fostering innovation. The School is committed to cultivating more high-caliber talent in the field of New Engineering and making greater contributions to the development of China’s information technology industry.
